Agios Ioannis Theologos in Hamili

Quaint little church with a Venetian watchtower (vardiola) on part of its roof. It dates back to between the 13th and 18th centuries AD, as the Venetians reached Kythira in the 13th century, but built several watchtowers on the Ionian Islands after the 16th century. However, it is possible that it is a maximum sanctuary and its dating must be determined in the BC era, since its morphological elements, as well as its location in Kythira, are consistent with Agios Georgios in Vouno, which has been shown to be a maximum sanctuary.

The views from here to the east are magnificent. You can climb the watchtower from the stone steps that surround the dome. This is also one of the most beautiful places on the island to watch the sunrise.

Access to the Temple is via a 1,500-meter passable dirt road that starts from the access road to the Phyri Ammos beach.
It is celebrated on the 26th of September, while the evening before becomes the vespers that gathers a lot of people.
