Kythira in the History of Art

Kythira, as a myth and as a reality, is a source of artistic inspiration and is a favorite subject of art history. 

Great writers and artists, such as the French Jean-Antoine Vatto, Charles Pierre Baudelaire, Victor Hugo, Antoine Castelllan, Gerard de Nerval, and the Greeks Costas Ouranis, Theodoros Aggelopoulos, Giorgos Tzavelas, Giorgos Katsaros,Giorgos Drizos and may others were inspired from Kythira giving the world unique artistic masterpieces.

The allegory and the “light” of Kythira are common elements for their inspiration.
