IN THE COLOR OF DEEP YELLOW
Sempreviva

Lives forever
The Venetians gave this name to the small amaranth flower that retains its color and symbolizes eternal love.
The small yellow flower that grows in steep parts of Kythera and on the rocky islet “Chytra” got its name from the Italian word, “sempre” which means always and the participle of the verb, “vivere” which means I live, (It lives forever).
You will find wonderful compositions of Sempreviva in many shops of the island.

The lion of Kythira
A wonderful and strange story about the famous ancient Greek Lion of Kythira who adorned the Venetian fortress of Chora, who went “through fire and iron” until he returned to his beloved island.
The statue was found by chance while digging trenches and the German administration decided to hand it over to the Greek archaeological service.
In the impressive video, Leo tells his story in the first person, from the day he was carved to his “kidnapping” by Nazi forces, his “hostage” in Berlin and finally his return first to Athens and then to his homeland.
Paver "OLGA"
In the 1930s, the first MAFEI & JACOB brand paver came to Kythira. The machine was already old as it was used. The paver was steam-powered and burned coal and wood, while its noisy presence scared small children who ran away from it. His train driver wrote on the side with white paint the name of his beloved, “OLGA” and with this name he remained in the local tradition of the island.
Today the paver, maintained by the Municipality of Kythira, is located at the entrance of the Town at the location “Prevolaki” and is an attraction of the island that takes us back in time.
