The island of Kythira
Kythira have an area of 284 square kilometers and most of them are semi-mountainous with several small plains and green ravines. The length of the coast of Kythira reaches 43 nautical miles. Their shores are interrupted by many sandy beaches mainly to the east or beaches consisting of pebbles. In the central part of the island there is a smooth plateau, the highest peak of which is Mermigaris with an altitude of 507 meters. The climate of the island is temperate with an average annual temperature of 19o C. The flora of the island is rich with shrubs and trees.
The island has important infrastructure projects, asphalt roads, good road network, modern buildings, large water supply networks, biological treatment plant, rich municipal electricity, well-kept squares, amazing cleanliness of public spaces and a modern Sanitary Landfill (XYTA).
Kythira is one of the parts of Greece which have significant archaeological and architectural wealth. In the past, distant and recent, archaeological excavations were carried out in many parts of the island with satisfactory findings.
